Microsoft Release First Windows Phone 8 Update

By Simon Thomas on 12th December 2012

Microsoft have begun rolling out the first update for Windows Phone 8 with the Windows Phone 8X the first device to receive the update. Tipsters have informed the crew over at WPCentral that the update has now rolled out over-the-air for the HTC 8X.

The update , which has been codenamed Portico, fixes the random restart bug which has affected Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 platform. This alone would be enough to please owners of Microsoft-powered smartphones, but it gets better because the update also brings a number of new features.

One new improvement coming to the HTC 8X and all smartphones that get the update is the ability to reject a call with a text message. This is a useful feature because it enables you to send an automated response when your not in a position to answer a call.

Microsoft have also added the ability to create draft text messages, which is a feature we can't believe was omitted in the first place. We're sure that Windows Phone 8 users will be grateful to finally have the feature !

The final new feature added to Windows Phone 8 is the option to delete multiple text messages and emails at once. Previously, you couldn't delete multiple items at once which was time-consuming for users of Microsoft's platform.

3G presumes that Microsoft will be rolling out the "Portico" update to the full range of Windows Phone 8 smartphones in the coming weeks. We'll bring you news when we hear that other Windows Phone 8 devices have received the update.
