Google activated an amazing 3.7 million Android devices over the Christmas period.

The figures cover Christmas Eve, presumably to include those who open their presents early,  and Christmas day itself. This is significantly higher than the average figure Google currently hits , which is 700,000 Android activations per day.

Google Android has continued to go from strength to strength over the last year and now accounts for over 50 per cent of the smartphone market.

However, we think Apple may well have trumped the 3.7 million figure over the Christmas period because the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S topped most wanted research conducted before the festive period.

With a massive number of Ice Cream Sandwich devices launching over the next couple of months we can only see Google Android becoming even more popular !

If 3G gets any figures concerning Apples activations or Christmas sales we'll let you know, because we're pretty sure they'll be spectacular.
