You may have read that HTC has released an update for the HTC Wildfire for Android 2.2 Froyo and Vodafone were very quiclky off the mark and starting offering the update to its users the same day.

HTC released its Android 2.2 ( Froyo ) update this week for the HTC Wildfire. Vodafone have been very quick off the mark and began offering the update to its users the same day.

As yet we have not heard of any of the other UK network operators being ready to offer the Android 2.2 update to its customers.

Vodafone HTC Wildfire customers can now benefit from Android 2.2 improvements :

•-          tethering i.e. get your 3G signal on your PC or lpatop routed via Wi-Fi or a USB cable.

•-          speed and reliability enhancements

•-          an improved camera app

•-          improved Bluetooth functionality

•-          apps can be installed on the Wildfire's SD card

Some parts of the Android 2.2 are not included with the Vodafone update as the HTC Wildfire has hardware limitations. Not included is Live Wallpaper and "Flash" video but "Flash Lite" is included.

Vodafone will send you a notification when you can download Android 2.2. However if you'd like to check the availability yourself you can do so manually on your Wildfire, as below.

" You can manually check if a software upgrade is available by selecting Menu from the Home screen, tapping Settings, scrolling down the screen, tapping About Phone and then System software updates. On this screen tap Check now" Note : taken from Vodafone's support forum.

The main question now is when will the other network operators be ready to offer Android 2.2 to its customers. No news as yet but as soon as we hear we will post it on 3G.

UPDATE : T-Mobile say they are now offering Android 2.2 to its customers.
