T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S Users Get Android 2.2

T-Mobile UK has confirmed that it will offer the Android 2.2 ( Froyo ) update to its Samsung Galaxy S users today. Once you have Android 2.2 you will benefit from Flash support and some useful speed benefits. Secondary benefits are Google Maps GPS navigation and tethering which lets you use your  Samsung Galaxy S as a broadband dongle.

A post was made on the T-Mobile support forum regarding the Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.2 firmware update as follows : "Our goal is to make the update process smoother and we are working to become the only mobile operator offering FOTA (Firmware over the Air) updates for the Samsung product range".

It continued "The aim was and still is to have the FOTA update available at some point today. If for reasons outside our control we are unable to have a FOTA update process fully functioning by close of play today, then we will make the update available for download via Samsung KIES tomorrow (Dec 1st)".

T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S users are amongst the last to receive the update in the UK so this should be most welcome. Some delay occurred as T-Mobile wanted to offer the update over the air and this took additional time to organize. It's a good idea to download via Wi-Fi if you can.

A word of caution though. Although T-Mobile say the update will occur today it may not finish today ie some get it today whilst some don't. Also, if you experience any problems downloading the update you are likely to have to download KIES ( Samsung's downloader ) to your PC first.
