BlackBerry OS Overtakes Apple’s iOS

The latest figures from StatCounter show that in the US, BlackBerry OS overtook Apple's iOS for the first time ever. This relates to mobile internet usage for the month of November.

 

The figures for the month of November in the US were :

 

BlackBerry OS has 34.3% of mobile internet usage

Apple iOS has 33% of mobile internet usage.

 

"These figures suggest that developers should not be developing solely for the iPhone to the exclusion of BlackBerry and Android," commented Aodhan Cullen, CEO, StatCounter.

 

Looking at mobile internet usage around the world the fiqures show that :

 

Symbian OS has 31.9%

Apple iOS has 21.9%

BlackBerry OS has 19.3%

Android has 11.6%.

 

Aodhan Cullen continued "This data demonstrates that there is a battle royal already going on in the smartphone market for the consumer and business internet user. You can never underestimate Microsoft but it looks to have its work cut out."

 

In terms of actual internet market share Google's Android has surged from only 8.2% to 23.8% in 12 months whilst Apple iOS has dipped from 51.9% to 33%. You can read more about Android's increased market share here.
