According to a Twitter post by Andy Rubin, Google is activating 300,000 Android phones a day. Andy Rubin is VP of engineering at Google. The Twitter post is simply 9 words long and can be seen here.

If we project the 300K over a full month this equates to over 10 million Android phones being activated each month. Or looking at it another way that's 12,500 activations each hour.

We recently posted an article confirming that Android had increased it's world-wide market share of smartphone sales from 3.5% to 25.5% in only 12 months.

Not so long ago in April, Android was reported to be activating 100,000 phones per day and within only 9 months has now tripled. Because of Andy Rubin's 9 word Twitter post having no other details it could be that the 300K is a spike in activations or it could be that activations have risen for months following a pattern. We can only assume the latter. If we hear more we will be sure to post it here on 3G.
