Google Goggles - New Search By Sight Application

World : Google have announced two new services which will be available on Android smartphones.

The first new service, called Google Goggles, enables users to “search by sight”.

To use Google Goggles you take a picture of what you want to search for and Google will recognize the item and bring back relevant search information. For example, you might see a monument and want to learn more about it. Google Goggles will recognize landmarks, works of art and products among other things.

Google Goggles works by first sending the image to Google Datacenter where it is then transferred into a signiature using computer algorithms which are then compared with pre-stored signatures identify items. Once the signature is identified Google will send you the correct search results.

The following Video gives you an introduction to Google Goggles and outlines its major features.

The second is a new function inside Google Maps called “What’s Nearby”. “Whats Nearby” will return the 10 nearest places to an area you’ve selected on Google Maps. It will return points of interest such as restaurants and shops.
