We’ve long known that the iPhone 5C is likely to come in a variety of colours, but now it looks like the iPhone 5S might sport some new shades too.
We knew that the iPhone 5S would likely launch in slate and white however it now seems as though there’ll be a gold version and a grey version as well. That’s according to Sonny Dickson, who has got hold of images of the handset in the two new colours. The gold version has a white trim at the top and bottom while the grey version has a black trim.
The colours are of course rather more classy and understated than the bright shades that the iPhone 5C is likely to appear in. Even the gold, which could easily have been a shiny, over the top shade is actually quite restrained, which makes sense since the iPhone 5S is a higher value and classier handset all round than the iPhone 5C. Even so, it’s a surprise move by Apple, who traditionally has kept things simple with just white and black options for its phones.
Still, it makes sense. More colours give prospective buyers more options and perhaps will even make some people more likely to take the plunge. It also ensures a bit more variety and individuality rather than everyone sporting an identical handset and allows the iPhone 5S to stand out a little from the iPhone 5, which looks almost identical to its successor other than the colour.
While we’d be surprised if any more colours turned up for this generation of the iPhone it’s always a possibility and with a reveal date rumoured for September 10th we shouldn’t have long to wait before we know.
