Samsung Galaxy Plus

The Samsung Galaxy S Plus is now available to buy from Vodafone.  The new smartphone is a more affordable version of the Samsung Galaxy S2.

Infact, Samsung now have two different affordable alternatives to the Samsung Galaxy S2. Yesterday, we brought you news of the Samsung Galaxy R which is a cheaper alternative to the S2 with even more power thanks to a Nvidia Tegra 2 processor and Geforce GPU. However, the Samsung Galaxy R only had a Super LCD screen, compared to the Galaxy S2's Super AMOLED screen.

Well this is where the Samsung Galaxy S Plus fills the gap because it features a 4 inch Super AMOLED screen. The reason it's more affordable than the Galaxy S2 is because it sacrifices some power as it only has a single core 1.4 GHz processor, rather than the S2's dual-core processor.

The Galaxy S Plus has a 5 mega-pixel camera, 8GB on onboard memory and runs on Android 2.3. All these features match the specification of the Samsung Galaxy R, but are lower than the Samsung Galaxy S2.

The similarity between the two devices is no coincidence and we think Samsung is trying to cover all bases. Those who want a great display to browse, view multimedia or use social networks will choose the Samsung Galaxy S Plus, while those who want to game and use intensive applications can choose the Samsung Galaxy R.

It's a very smart move from Samsung who are obviously trying to capitalize on the success of the Samsung Galaxy S2 by branching out to lower price points.

The Samsung Galaxy S Plus is available free on contracts starting at £31 a month which gets you 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of mobile data. In comparison the Samsung Galaxy SII is available free on a contract costing £41 a month which gets you 900 minutes, unlimited texts and 750MB of mobile data (currently on special offer at £36).
