Blackberry QNX is the new operating system that will succeed the current Blackberry operating system Blackberry OS 7.

QNX is already available on the Blackberry Playbook and has been praised due to its increased feature-set and more multi-media orientated approach. Infact, many users have likened it to the Palm webOS operating system which is critically acclaimed.

New information suggests that Blackberry QNX will support Android applications by the time it launches on smartphones, which are due to launch early next year. Supporting Android applications would be a very smart move on Blackberry's behalf.

The first smartphone expected to launch running on QNX is the Blackberry Colt which is expected to have a 4.3 inch touch-screen and be powered by a 1.2 GHz processor. However, it's possible that QNX on the Blackberry Playbook will be upgraded to support Android before the launch of the Colt.

RIM seems to be trying to move the Blackberry brand away from the business outlook it has had in the past and bring some new multi-media and social aspects to their mobiles. QNX seems to be the key factor in this change and it'll be interesting to see how it turns out.
