Blackberry have announced a new music service which has a unique social aspect.
The service which works through "Cloud" based storage enables you to select up to 50 tracks to add to your profile and change up to 25 per month. The Blackberry Music service costs £4.99 a month and is currently in a private beta.
The music you choose is then stored on your device meaning you can listen to it without internet once they've been downloaded. Sadly, you won't be able to transfer tracks to other devices, but if you could the price would be much higher anyway.
However, where BBM Music becomes unique is that if you add friends to the service you can listen to their 50 tracks as well. The amount of friends you can add is endless and therefore so is your potential music library.
The service is acting like a musical social network which Blackberry hopes will make the program more fun to use and faster to spread. It's like sharing your lastFM music or Spotify playlist with your friends but with the added fact that your actually unlocking the music for them.
You can easily check what your friends are listening to, write comments and importantly check out how good your music collection is by seeing how often your track have been listened to.
The service is currently entering private beta in the UK, so expect it to launch later this year. We're excited to see how well the idea works out, but one thing we are currently worried about is whether Blackberry's current installed user-based will adopt the concept.
