US : The 2008 Olympic Games, which opened on August 8, are providing China with the opportunity to showcase the country's advancements on a worldwide stage. Wireless technologies, such as third-generation (3G) mobile telecommunications, Wi-Fi and wireless device services, in particular offer a cutting-edge, technological aspect to China's recent developments.
Agilent has been a key partner of Chinese telecommunications companies as they prepared for the Olympic Games and rolled out these new wireless technologies and services.
3G and Wi-Fi Deployment
In preparation for the Beijing Olympics, the Chinese government mandated the deployment of Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA), the country's technology standard for 3G, across eight cities in China. This 3G offering now provides voice, video and data access through mobile phones for attendees and participants of the Games. In addition, free Wi-Fi service is available in some hot spots across Beijing to supplement the 3G offering.
China Mobile, the country's largest mobile phone operator, managed the deployment of these wireless technologies and selected Agilent TD-SCDMA test solutions to meet their testing needs. To help ensure successful deployment, Agilent provided signal generators and signal analyzers, some of which were loaned, as well as timely, local technical support.
In addition, Agilent's signal generation and signal analysis equipment was used by local telecommunications providers to ensure the quality and service of Wi-Fi hot spot deployment across Beijing.
Wireless Communications Device Service Testing
To ensure world-class quality and reliability of wireless communications devices during the Games, Agilent solutions are being used by the State Radio Monitoring Center for radio equipment test and signal monitoring in the Olympic Village and at other Olympic facilities. Agilent spectrum analyzers, signal generators and wireless testers are supporting services such as wireless microphones, wireless cameras, wireless LAN, in-ear monitoring devices and radio equipment testing, while Agilent's signal monitoring system is helping with radio detecting, wireless troubleshooting and technical support.
