debitel selects 3G HSDPA Network Cards
7th August , 2006

Europe : Sierra Wireless and debitel, the third largest mobile service provider in Germany with 8.9 million customers, announced that debitel has selected Sierra Wireless HSDPA wireless wide area network cards to provide customers with high speed HSDPA network access in Germany.

The debitel SURF@go Card 850, now available through debitel's business sales channels and in debitel retail locations throughout Germany, is designed to provide wireless connectivity to e-mail, the Internet, and online corporate applications over 3G networks at data speeds comparable to wired broadband connections.

The debitel SURF@go Card 850 is a 3G wireless WAN Type II PC Card with a slim, unextended design, allowing users to conveniently store the card inside the laptop. Fully functional on HSDPA, UMTS, EDGE, and GPRS networks, the SURF@go Card utilizes the 2100 MHz UMTS frequency band common to European UMTS networks, offering average data rates of 500 to 800 kbps, with bursts over 1 Mbps on HSDPA networks. In areas where HSDPA or UMTS network coverage is not available, these cards will connect to EDGE and GSM/GPRS networks and enable international roaming on all four frequency bands (850, 900, 1800, and 1900 MHz) used worldwide.

"With the launch of HSDPA network service, our customers can now enjoy a wireless computing experience that is very similar to working on wired broadband, including the ability to access streaming audio and video and work within a VPN without sacrificing efficiency," said Martin Witt, head of product management for debitel. "The wireless wide area network cards provided by Sierra Wireless are key to these benefits, and we believe the ease-of-use, performance, and reliability of these cards will help to increase the appeal of our service to customers."

"We are pleased to cooperate with debitel to offer customers in Germany a wireless data product that demonstrates the speed and performance of HSDPA technology," said Jim Lahey, Vice President, EMEA for Sierra Wireless. "With the ever-increasing pace of modern life, the ability to stay in contact and quickly access information from wherever it's needed is a compelling benefit for mobile professionals."
