T-Mobile Commercial 3G Wireless in Hungary

Europe : Following a customer test lasting for several months, T-Mobile launches its commercial 3G service on August 26, using the company’s third generation network covering three quarters of Budapest. By the end of the year 3G will be available in almost the whole area of Budapest, enabling video telephony, fast data transmission, music downloading and mobile TV. In order to enable as many people as possible to try the novel features offered by 3G, customers of the company - holding appropriately enabled terminals - can use the video telephone service free of charge until December 31, 2005 within Hungary, while data traffic within the 3G network, as well as content specifically related to 3G will be gratis till September 30.

Upon the announcement made by T-Mobile Hungary, the commercial 3G service is also introduced in Hungary and the third generation mobile network makes the opportunities offered by mobile multimedia available to an ever increasing number of customers. The current commercial launch was preceded by a closed subscriber test, while key partners, corporate customers and people volunteering and randomly picked from among the applicants could use the 3G network, which has been constantly developed. Experiences and feedback of participants to the test proved highly useful in the course of the fine tuning process and repairing problems arising.

All T-Mobile subscribers - holding the appropriately enabled terminals - can comfortably use the 3G network (covering three quarters of Budapest) with their current tariff package, without any special subscription or registration needed, and with their existing SIM cards. In a few weeks upon the launch of the 3G service, two new video phones will be introduced in the company’s shops: Sony Ericsson K608i and Samsung SGH-ZM60 - exclusively manufactured for T-Mobile subscribers. Despite their compact size, the 3G mobile phones come with two cameras and offer the whole range of multimedia services. Customers holding such telephones can enjoy mobile television, while the terminals - equipped with 1.3 Megapixel cameras - can also be used to take photos.

Video telephony
Video telephony is the new service of T-Mobile, enabling calling parties to see each other. During the video session, the parties involved can show each other their environment, any event or location deemed interesting to the other party. T-Mobile makes the video telephone service available to its customers free of charge until December 31, 2005 within Hungary.

3G t-zones WAP-portal – ranging from pictures to multimedia
Similarly to the commercial service, T-Mobile also launches its t-zones portal – fully optimised for 3G and putting multimedia (mobile TV, films) in the forefront – that will be accessible with all 3G phones bought from T-Mobile Hungary Co. Ltd., including the new models (e.g.: Samsung ZM60, Sony Ericsson K608i).

Later live mobile telephone broadcasts will also be offered, similar to those introduced during the test phase – the Connection Concert or the Manchester United-Debrecen Champions’ League qualifier football matches.

Mobil TV with a telephone call
As a unique novelty in Hungary - in areas covered with the 3G network - T-Mobile makes mobile TV content available simpler than ever before: by just making a video call to number 1738. Programmes and the t-zones WAP-portal accessible with a single video call using a 3G mobile phone, as well as content specifically related to 3G can be viewed free of charge until September 30, 2005.

Fast mobile data transmission
For users of fast mobile Internet – additionally to its GPRS/EDGE and WLAN solutions - T-Mobile now offers the card phones, which are also 3G enabled. E-mailing, as well as using WAP is much faster and more comfortable using 3G, while the latest multimedia content also becomes available. The third generation network - in an optimal case - offers download speeds of 384 kbps and uploading at 64 kbps.

Mobile Jukebox - 300.000 high quality tracks on offer
Simultaneously with launching its fast 3G network, T-Mobile also announced its service enabling full track download, called Mobile Jukebox. Using the client pre-installed on Nokia 6630 and 6680 models - while the client can also be downloaded afterwards from the WAP portal – users can easily browse between 300 thousand recordings. Downloadable tracks can be enjoyed in good quality - identical to music played on computers or portable devices. In addition, using Mobile Jukebox one can also buy ringing tones, as well as CD cover photos.
