Vodafone 3G Coverage in Azores |
9th August ,2004 |
Europe : Third generation arrives in the Azores today with the launch of Vodafone's 3G/UMTS coverage in Ponta Delgada. Vodafone's 3G network has been progressively extended since the commercial launch of the first 3G service last February, and there are now over 700 stations in operation. Vodafone's 3G coverage will be extended to other cities and regions of mainland Portugal and Madeira and the Azores, reaching all district capitals by the end of the year. The present coverage serves Greater Lisbon (Cascais, Amadora, Loures, Sintra, Odivelas, Oeiras, Almada, Seixal, Setúbal, Barreiro, etc), Greater Oporto (Gaia, Gondomar, Maia, Matosinhos, Valongo, Espinho, Póvoa de Varzim, Vila do Conde, etc), Coimbra, Aveiro, Braga, Faro and key areas of the Algarve (Albufeira, Portimão, Lagos, Olhão, Tavira, Alagoa, Vila Real de Santo António, etc), Madeira (Funchal) and the Azores (Ponta Delgada). The Vodafone live! 3G range will also be extended during the rest of this year with the introduction of new 3G phones and an even wider range of content. Vodafone was the first operator to offer 3G roaming with leading European countries and Japan. At present, the 3G service can be used in Germany, Spain, Holland, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and Sweden, and will shortly be available in France, Greece and Ireland. Vodafone pioneered Third Generation services in Portugal with the launch, in February 2004, of the Vodafone 3G/GPRS Mobile Connect Card. On 4 May this year, Vodafone launched Vodafone live! 3G which, together with the Samsung Z105 phone, offers the best experience of today's 3G, providing a new and more exciting dimension to inter-personal communications with its videocalls, live television streaming (live! TV) and new multimedia content such as music videoclips and true tones with voice. |
