First 3G HotSpot for Passenger Productivity

4th August 2003

Canada : Workforce mobility is on the rise and business professionals are expected to remain connected, informed and productive while on the road.

Inset is the onBoard(TM) Mobile Gateway.

In Motion Technology Inc. ("InMotion") -- an innovator of passenger area networking solutions, today announced the launch of the onBoard(TM) Mobile Gateway, the industry's first in-vehicle 3G-based wireless HotSpot. The onBoard Mobile Gateway is a next generation, ruggedized wireless services hardware platform combining the mobility of third generation (3G) cellular data networks with the ease and ubiquity of Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) resulting in seamless connectivity to the Internet for vehicle passengers.
Designed specifically for use in challenging vehicular environments, the patent-pending onBoard Mobile Gateway and associated service management software creates a sophisticated passenger area network. This wireless passenger area network allows in-transit professionals to use their own off-the-shelf, WiFi-equipped notebook computers and personal digital assistants (PDAs) to access standard Internet features such as web browsing, email and instant messaging as well as virtual private networks (VPNs) and corporate collaboration software in exactly the same manner they do at home and in the office.

"By creating a proprietary, accelerated bridge between 3G and WiFi, our objective is to allow WiFi-centric consumers to seamlessly benefit from the newly deployed 3G cellular data network while traveling in vehicles," said Kirk Moir, President and CEO, for In Motion Technology. "We're excited to be introducing the onBoard Mobile Gateway and the onBoard HotSpot service to help improve the productivity of ground transportation passengers. Partnering with ground transportation providers is critical to this objective."

In conjunction with the announcement of onBoard Mobile Gateway, In Motion Technology also announced the availability of the onBoard HotSpot managed service for transportation service providers. The onBoard Hotspot service bundles the onBoard Mobile Gateway, 3G cellular service and all installation, management and maintenance services required to equip vehicle fleets. Completely turnkey and proactively monitored, the onBoard Hotspot service allows corporate transportation companies to rapidly and efficiently introduce this new capability to their passengers as either a bundled or a la carte service.

"Electronic communication plays a critical role in the life of today's mobile professional. With onBoard HotSpot service from In Motion Technology, our passengers will have the ability to work as effectively from our InMotion equipped vehicles as they do from their desks, increasing their productivity and overall satisfaction," said Jon Goldberg, Vice President, Standards and Licensing, Carey International.
