Picture on left shows one of Conductus' current superconductor products - The ClearSite® 2300 Metro Superconductor Front End System. With this latest order, Conductus has received over $1M in orders over the last 18 months for delivery of products to several customers in Japan, including a major wireless carrier and three major OEMs for a variety of advanced HTS products for evaluation for future deployment in 3G and 4G networks. Earlier products for Japanese customers have included systems incorporating Conductus' groundbreaking 50-pole-equivalent filter and small, low-power systems incorporating Japanese cryocoolers. "We feel that this latest order from Japan is an additional indication that we are making good progress for our products in advanced wireless applications," said Charles Shalvoy, President and Chief Executive Officer at Conductus. "Based upon our success in winning these orders over the past year, we believe that Conductus is now the leader in the development of superconductive receiver front ends for advanced wireless applications for the Japanese market." "Representatives of Japanese wireless companies have increasingly indicated that they believe that HTS technology will play a significant role in advanced networks," added Shalvoy. "They have evaluated the technology of many companies in the HTS industry and have repeatedly chosen Conductus to supply their evaluation systems. As a result, we feel that we are in a favorable position to win major HTS deployment orders when they begin in Japan, which we believe will start in 2003 or 2004. In the meantime, we look forward to successful results with these new systems." Conductus, Inc., founded in 1987 and based in Sunnyvale, California, develops, manufactures, and markets electronic components and systems based on superconductors for applications in the worldwide telecommunications markets. For many applications, the unique properties of superconductors offer significant performance advantages over products based on conventional copper electronic components. These advantages can provide improved price/performance at the system level because of enhanced sensitivity and efficiency as well as reduced size and weight.
