THQ
Wireless and Superscape announce that the two companies have signed
an agreement to collaborate on the development of 3D gaming content
for mobile platforms. Under the terms of the agreement, THQ, the world's
second largest third-party videogame publisher according to NPD Funworld,
which tracks U.S. retail videogame sales), will grant to Superscape
the rights to develop and distribute various games using Superscape's
Swerve 3D applications platform. The games will be based upon THQ's
IP (intellectual property) and that of selected brands, to which THQ
holds the wireless gaming rights. THQ's catalogue of IP numbers over
one hundred titles, including such hits as StreetfighterTM, MotoGP,
IntellivisionTM Astrosmash and WWE Mobile MadnessTM. Superscape Swerve-developed
applications combine high quality graphics with compact file sizes -
both of which are prerequisites for delivering 3D games on mobile platforms.
Once the initial content development has been completed by Superscape
and tested
by both companies, it is planned that revenue distribution and joint
marketing
agreements will be signed. Working closely with ARM, (LSE: ARM); (Nasdaq:
ARMHY)), the industry's leading provider of 16/32-bit embedded RISC
processor
solutions with whom Superscape signed an agreement in July 2001, Superscape's
Swerve 3D engine will be promoted to handset manufacturers with the
new 3D
gaming content offered as an embedded solution. The THQ and Superscape
3D
gaming content will also be promoted to leading network operators for
3G trials.
