Sony have confirmed that their older Xperia Z devices will get the bump to Android KitKat (4.4) in May.

Sony devices getting updated to Android KitKat next month include the Xperia Z, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia ZR and the Xperia ZL. The exact launch dates remain a mystery, but as always it'll hit unlocked devices first, followed by those locked to specific operators.

Android KitKat, which is the latest version of Google's operating system, brings a host of new features including 'Immersive Mode' which removes the status and navigation bars when watching media or reading e-books.

Google Now voice-control is also massively improved, while the performance and the visual appearance of the operating system have also been tweaked. Read all about new features and improvements of Android KitKat here.

Those with newer Sony Xperia devices are already enjoying Android KitKat with the operating system already released for the Sony Xperia Z2, Sony Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, Sony Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z2 Tablet.
