Apple iOS 7.1.1 update hits iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch
iOS 7.1.1 is a minor update, but an important one nonetheless
Apple have released a new version of their iOS operating system for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
Apple iOS 7.1.1 is a relatively minor update in comparison with iOS 7.1, but it still brings with it a number of improvements, security updates and bug fixes. Not all of the changes brought by iOS 7.1.1 were documented, but Apple did pick out a couple of key changes.
The first of which is that the TouchID fingerprint recognition on the iPhone 5S has been patched, to try and resolve a 'Fade' issue that causes failed scans to occur. That's something Apple already tried to fix in iOS 7.1, so they'll be hoping it's second time lucky.
It's not only those with an iPhone 5S who'll benefit from the bump to iOS 7.1.1, because it also resolves a bug that could impact keyboard responsiveness. While, the update also "fixes an issue when using Bluetooth keyboards with VoiceOver enabled".
Compatibility and Availability
Apple iOS 7.1.1 is compatible with all devices running iOS 7.1, so that's the iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5C and 5S, the iPad Air, iPad 2, 3, 4, iPad mini, iPad mini with Retina display and the iPod Touch (5th generation).
Apple iOS 7.1.1 is available to download right now from iTunes or OTA (over-the-air). It shouldn't take too long to download and install because the update is only around 25MB in size.
Next Up iOS 8
The next major release on the horizon is iOS 8, which is expected to make its debut on the iPhone 6 in September. Rumours about the platform have already begun surfacing, alongside concept designs of the operating system (pictured above).
iOS 8 will apparently focus heavily on health and fitness features, in preparation for the launch of Apple's iWatch smartwatch. It's also expected to come with a vastly improved version of Apple Maps, while Shazam's music-identification service looks set to be built into Siri.
