The latest research conducted by Nielsen has found that Android is now the most desired smartphones in the US.

The new results are a turnaround for last years which showed that iPhone was most desired with 33% of people favouring Apple's OS with Android coming second at 26% and Blackberry in third place. Windows phone trailed in 4th place which just 7 per cent favouring Microsoft's offering.

The research just conducted told a different story with Android leapfrogging into 1st place with 31 per cent of the vote, while Apple dropped to just 30 per cent. Blackberry's desirability also dropped to just 11 per cent, while Microsoft's Windows mobile dropped a per cent down to 6.

This has to be good news for Android and very bad news for Microsoft who surely would have expected to see more growth in a year with huge ad expenditure.

Nielsen also listed installed user-base for each operating system in the US which showed Android top with 37 per cent, Apple 2nd with 27 per cent, Blackberry 3rd a with 22 per cent Windows Mobile in 4th with 10 per cent.

We think the next year will even better for Android and even worse for Blackberry , so next year we wouldn't be surprised to Apple and Android accounting for over 70 per cent of the total market.
