OneNAND on All Major Mobile Platforms

6th April, 2005 ( see below for all today's 3G news )

ASIA : Samsung Electronics announced the availability of OneNAND Flash software -- called eXtended sector remapper (XSR) -- that optimizes the functioning of OneNAND memory devices for 3G mobile phones, PDAs, portable gaming systems and digital cameras. The software simplifies OneNAND Flash integration with digital devices.

Five mobile optimization software programs have been developed, each for a specific operating environment, three of which are based on Samsung's XSR software. The PocketStore II optimizes OneNAND Flash memory in the Microsoft mobile environment. UniStoreII is used with Symbian and TFS4 (Transactional File System 4) provides XSR software and a Flash file system in a single package for RTOS (Real Time Operating Systems). In addition, Samsung provides a software program called the RFS (Robust File System) for the Linux environment and TFS4-Light software has been developed for applications, such as MP3 players, that need a small memory footprint.

Samsung's XSR, which has been designed to facilitate the use of OneNAND Flash memory with any mobile product operating system, delivers 30MB/sec reading and 9MB/sec writing speeds. It also simplifies the design process for high performance, low-cost, low-power multimedia mobile systems.

OneNAND Flash memory integrates NAND Flash memory, SRAM and logic IC on a single chip, and is the only NAND Flash designed to interface with NOR Flash memory. In addition, it minimizes the amount of data that is lost when power is cut off during storage.

Samsung offers the most expansive line of mobile memory, including NAND Flash memory, mobile DRAM, UtRAM, multi-chip packages, next-generation fusion memory and customized mobile memory software solutions.

According to the market analyst firm, iSuppli, sales of 3G mobile phones alone will increase at an annual average of 87% through 2008.
