3G User Demand Analysis for 3G Content and Applications in Asia

4th April, 2005 ( see below for all today's 3G news )

ASIA : Most of Asia's operators are aggressively moving toward content provision as voice APRUs decline. With 3G technology, the paradigm shift from voice to content becomes the primary business model for operators and content providers.

Many mobile operators in Asia have spent considerable sums just to acquire the 3G licenses to provide this service, followed by CAPEX spending of several billions of dollars on 3G infrastructure. But the build out of these networks still have not delivered much value to the consumers. One of the most frustrating aspects for operators is that 3G handsets have been heavy and unappealing.

Current thinking is that 3G users are looking for email access, online gaming, video conferencing and location based services. But is this really what consumers want? Is it what they will pay for? Or is it simply only what can be provided just now?

The Asia region's first in-depth user analysis on 3G applications provides a timely perspective on what are the expectations, wants and needs of the mobile user.

This research report provides an understanding of mobile consumers needs and wants -- which will allow the service provider to create a wireless application strategy that will generate appropriate revenues market 3G services.
