HP TouchPad Tablet Announced
10th February, 2011
The HP Touchpad is a 9.7 inch tablet that runs on HP's webOS.
PC manufacturer HP bought out Palm and its webOS operating system in 2010. It released a few 3G phones and in July 2011, released the first tablet running on webOS, the TouchPad. The TouchPad didn’t perform very well in sales initially, and not long after, HP announced it discontinued webOS devices and the platform itself.
With the TouchPad’s price dropped to £89, sales jumped in Europe and the UK, leading it to be the second most popular tablet after the iPad. HP has not since released a tablet – though with its Windows ties in the PC world, perhaps it could be one of the manufacturers to launch a Windows 8 tablet.
