In June, there were nearly 55 million CDMA subscribers in North and South America, representing more than 30 percent of the total wireless subscribers in the region.
Siemens to build 3G US mobile network for Cingular Wireless
October 31st Cingular Wireless, the second largest US wireless carrier, has chosen Siemens as one of its partners to build its third generation (3G) mobile network. The company announced today that it will upgrade its mobile network to the EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution) 3G standard. In addition to providing mobile network infrastructure, Siemens has also been asked to supply GSM/TDMA dual-technology mobile phones that allow users to make calls in both types of network.

October 31st Nokia and Sony Ericsson have agreed on testing the interoperability of MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) features and applications. Within the framework of this collaboration, Swedish AU-System will develop a suite of test tools according to the Nokia and Sony Ericsson MMS Conformance Paper developed based on the activities of the respective companies in the 3GPP and WAP Forum consortia. The MMS interoperability tests are scheduled to begin early next year.
