ADELAIDE
has become the first city in the southern hemisphere to have a fully
functional third-generation (3G) mobile telephone network. The network,
which allows users to send and receive video images and access the internet
from mobile phones, will be used to test new services and applications
before their commercial launch. Called M.Net, the network has been established
by a consortium of telecommunications companies and research organisations
to showcase the capabilities of 3G technology.
