My own opinion of kingmobilephone's is that they are a known good unlocker, who have been a member of this forum for several years.

I used kingmobilephone to unlock my 3 and O2 usb modems at the weekend and received a prompt service and my modems are now happily unlocked at the first attempt.

I had previously accidently debranded the 3 modem, thinking the updater on Huawei web site was simular to the nokia updater service. Where on my modem it replaced the 3 connection manager with their generic conection manager.

Debranding any device or phone is done at your own risk as it can / will void your warranty or can brick your device.

Within a short time I had the 3 modem (using generic connection manager) working on O2, 3 and ASDA internet. With the generic connection manager you have the option from a drop down menu to select which network you want to connect to. Although you do need to set up a connection for each network you intend to use the modem on.

With the O2 modem it is worth checking to see if they are already unlocked as O2 may supply you with a unlocked modem.

With the O2 modem I tried it using the O2 connection manager and set up a ASDA account on it.

To use the O2 connection manager I added a new connection, but to get it to connect to ASDA I had to set the default connection to ASDA as I could not find a way to select ASDA from the connect to network menu as it always defaulted to O2.

I will post the settings I used on my modem a bit later on if any one needs them.

I used the one from the Huawie web site on the link below.

This application updates the firmware on the modem and replaces the networks connection manager with generic conection manager on the modem.

You update the modems firmware at your own risk.

I have got a French SFR sim card to use with the dongle for when im in france. I have plugged it in and it shows the signal strength (uk roaming) but now i need to finf what settings for APN etc i should be using

O2 UK - what I am using now

very easy

Create a new profile (say O2 UK)

Access No. = *99#

set the new profile O2 UK as default

after u got your modem unlocked (hopefully by us)

After you unlock the dongle, you will have change the internet connection settings inside the dongle in order to make it connecting to new network provider.

I suggest u use the huawei connection manager software with the new network provider setting without doing firmware upgrade. (easiest)

However, some more aggressive customer would like to have the advantage of having more update dongle firmware because modem will work more stable or in some dongle firmware, they offer extra functionality such as speed upgrade from 3.2MB to 7.2MB etc..

After you have unlocked your dongle, in order to use the dongle on a new network provider, you need generic Huawei internet Connection software.

After you unlock your 3g modem and use it on new network, you may not need the original internet connection software because the new network settings won't work on it. Here is an example, I got a O2 E160 Huwaei 3g modem which has a O2 internet connection software pre-installed. Everytime I plug in the modem, it installs the O2 software, but the trouble is I am using Orange UK sim card and the O2 connection manager won't work with it. I use it with Huawei Mobile Partner Software.

Is there any way we can remove the O2 connection software and put the generic Huwaei connection manager in there ? YES, you can.

Bascially, you need to erase all O2 / 3 / t-mobile/ Orange / whatever network provider default firmware in your USB dongle and install it with the generic huawei firmware. Before you decide to remove the firmware, please notice there is always a risk in damaging your dongle. However, if you do these 3 things I mentioned, it will mininise the risk (at least I didn't kill any myself)

(A) Restart the computer and only run the dashboard program
(B) DO NOT INTERRUPT the program while it's doing the job.
(C) Make sure you flash with the right dashboard program (Eg, if you have E160 dongle, flash it with E160 dashboard software ONLY)

If you understand the above, you can proceed to next step

Step 1: Download the generic huawei firmware

Here I have a E160 generic dashboard firmware (E160_Dashboard_WIN_UTPS11.030.01.04.03.B409.exe)

Step 2: Run .exe file


Accept the agreement and press NEXT


The program will detect the dongle details (I am using a O2 E160 USB dongle as example)


Very important, you read again the warning - ie. JUST DON'T INTERUPT IT ONCE YOU PRESS START

The whole process takes about 2-3 mintues and you shall see the message above.

Press finish and it's done and you can see now, it shows as mobile partner (generic connection manager) where you can use any WAP (internet settings) you want.

I will try to upload more dashboard files for different modem to the web and if you want to use this tutorial or want to forward to somewhere, feel free to do it. (please do mention it's from king mobile as I write this word by word myself)

Hi, I have a "dead" modem E220. Any idea how to bring it back to life?
