3Alert Internet Usage: You've reached your allowance

I've been getting 3Alert text messages all morning about I've reached my allowance and you may be cut off if you use more data. I'm always near the limit each month anyway, but called 3 to ask how I can check online what my data use is and was told there is a problem with 3's systems and the text messages were sent in error, so if anyone else got these messages this morning, just ignore them.

Oh and the nice Indian CS woman told me my internet usage is viewable from My3's My Usage page, when I tried explaining this has never worked I hit a brick wall.

haha there must be one person working today as i had the same conversations and when i explained it had never worked she was so confused and kept asking me if i wanted to upgrade!
then she told me there would be a fee if i kept using my data, so i asked what is the fee, to which she replied yes three G! nice!
3 texts so far and my data use started yesterday!

I got the same text this morning. It's the first time I've received such a text, and I'm never near the 1GB limit by the time I receive my bill, so I was surprised. But I'm glad it seems to be an error, and I'll continue to use my X-series silver data!

I got the same response regarding the 3Alert messages and had the same conversation 2 weeks ago about trying to view data usage. The person I spoke to said there wasn't a way for me to monitor the usage even though there's an option on My3 to view it (this has never worked for me).

I also received the 3Alerts at the beginning of May (a few days before the end of my billing cycle) and I did get cut off until my new billing cycle started. 3 said that I had used 1GB yet my bill showed only 178MB of usage!

I know I've used less than 100MB. I hope I haven't got to wait until the end of my billing cycle as a result of a failure with 3's systems.

My cycle is the 20th of every month ie Today! - after using data with Tomtom for about 2 hours today I have now had 3 such texts - CS told me to ignore them.

Initially they blamed my changing from Gold to Silver X-series on April12th

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I was woken up by the same text at 5am. I may give CS a call later and give them some abuse as I'm getting really fed up with all the problems at the moment.

I have now received about 20 of these identical text messages. I woke up to them hammering my phone and panicked, but then realised that I am only 6 days into my billing cycle and could not have downloaded 1gb worth of podcasts and rss feeds to my phone! But then I still cancelled the auto-updates on the phone until I know better. But now, I am pretty sure I have not exceeded 100mb even. I didn't want to call us CS as I know from past experience that they cannot tell me my true allowance.

It is reassuring to hear that others are experiencing this. However, what does it actually mean when it says "you may be cut off if you use any more data before...". Cancel the internet add-on?..I assume no problem with that and carrying on, as we can just sign up next month again, especially if we are banned from using it this month anyway..

Let us know if anyone does actually get cut off after today's warning? I shall continue using my phone regardless..

This may explain last month's problem for me.

All of my browsing and mail etc OUTSIDE of planet three was disabled. It took me a solid WEEK of trying to get it sorted out as Three CS, AND the Three shop didn't have a clue. They even went so far as to exchange handsets for me. I even sugested that they may have disabled my internet access until the next cycle, but they said this wouldn't happen, they'd just rape me on the Mb charge. I got no text messages at all though.

Hmmmm. Inconsistency is annoying. If the rules are harsh, then that's OK, I can live with it. However, if they aren't even consistent or transparent - what chance have I got?

I've had them too, four in total today. I did get worried so rang them and the bloke I spoke to couldn't answer. He told me that you get a warning at 1g and then get cut off at 2g but not to worry as they won't charge anymore. You just get cut off until your next billing date.

I couldn't get it sorted though. I never use more than 20mb a month!

Is it true that the new usage limit is 2GB as it says here:

Wow, thanks for posting about this! I was getting these messages all morning - I kind of freaked out and turned push email/packet data all the time off.

I spoke to 3, and went through the usual 'blood out of stone' rigmarole. They also confirmed to me it's a technical issue.

As many people have posted here, there's no option to check data usage in My3. For some reason, this useful feature that used to work seems to have been disabled with the update to My3 about 4 - 6 months ago.

Anyway, my suggestion would be to try accessing something data intensive (e.g. Google Maps). If your current spend amount increases as a result, then it's likely you're outside the allowance. Word of warning though, that they charge £2/MB.

Although from what I have read in posts above, they don't charge you even if you do exceed it, so who knows!?

got one of these last month and my bill said I had downloaded 220MB, not near my 1GB limit and got one today and I have hardly used it. They tell me it will be okay now, do I believe them???? Not for one second!

Just got a 3 sms saying Internet Add-on is low.
Only renewed it on Monday, and I have a data usage meter on my phone. I have used 20.2Mb since the 19th. Do hope they are not lowing limits!
As I am PAYG, I shall ignore and continue to use data as the worst that can happen is they eat up my remaining credit!

Add me to the list of people receiving this message. I average 80-100MB a month and yesterday I got this message half-way through my billing month. My Nokia's log says I've transferred around 60MB so far this month. Really not impressed. I was going to buy a data modem and sign-up for a second contract yesterday and I've put this on hold until I hear back from Customer Services. But from the postings I see here, I'm not optimistic this will be dealt with.

Lol, I had this problem as well. So I phoned 3 CS and asked why I had got the text since I had only used about 30megs, according to my phones log.

Anyway cut a long story short, the lady on the other end of the phone started quoting massive figures of data usage to me... or so I thought. She was telling my how many bits I had used, and since there are a hell of a lot of bits in 30mb, I was trying to explain to her that I was using a normal amount. But you try explaining bits and bytes to a 3 CS rep... its not the easiest of tasks
