N95 - V21
For a couple of weeks I haven't been able to access any web page that requires connection to a secure server (such as hotmail, gmail, ebay etc etc) or application that requires a secure login (Gmail APP, Win Live messenger etc). I've had the phone for several months and always been able to use these webpages/apps up until I started receiving the message: "Unable to create a secure connection to this server" ![]() What I've tried: - Contacting T-Mo UK (my provider) and talked with support for nearly an hour, which involved disabling and re-enabling various account settings, him getting a co-worker's n95 and comparing all web related settings and testing apps and sites I had a problem with. I'm pretty sure its not operator related. - Reinstalling Firmware - Hard Reset - Trying other web browsers - Exhausted google I'm kinda stuck on what to try now. I have lost a lot of functionality due to this and it feels like my phone is crippled. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated!! ![]() |

Re: Web + Secure connections
I have an n73 on t-mobile and have been having the same problems for about 3-4 weeks now. I am not able to connect to any web site that requires HTTPS and my mail application, Nokia mail for exchange, refuses to sync my exchange mail. The funny thing is that occasional the problem goes away and both the above work but only for about 10 mines then neither will work again.
This has got to be a t-mobile problem. I haven’t bothered ringing them as I suspected I would get the same result as you and I am just about to take out a Voda contract with an n95-8g. It amazes me that a network can have such an obvious network wide problem and not realise!!! Might be worth posting in the t-mobile section to see if anybody else is getting the same problem as it is not an n95 problem. |

Re: Web + Secure connections
This is interesting...I tested my sim on an N73 and I was able to get to sites my N95 won't open. Over on N95users.com we've concluded it has something to do with the v21 firmware and T-Mobile UK N95 specifically as we are able to all access secure sites using GSM only meaning the security on the phone itself is working. Not sure why you're now also experiencing the same on an N73...it may be the same issue but you are the first person I've found with this problem that isn't specifically a UK T-Mobile customer with the N95 and v21 firmware.

Re: Web + Secure connections
I have the same problem as everyone above with an n82, latest firmware on t-mobile uk. But I have a little more information:
1. It also impacts my SIM-free N80 on T-mobile. 2. The n82 works fine using an O2 SIM borrowed from an iPhone. 3. Both n80 and n82 work fine over WiFi. 4. Both n80 and n82 have problems and cannot update the Download! catalogue over a t-mobile connection. 5. On the n82, the Ngage application is unable to download games over the t-mobile connection. The ovi share application also has some problems. 6. The t-mobile SIM I've been using is from my Vario2 (Windows Mobile 6 Pocket PC), on which everything including secure connections continues to work fine. So, it looks like it is a problem with Nokia Series 60 phones *only* and only in combination with the T-mobile network. I wonder if this is related to T-Mobile falling out with Nokia over their Ovi initatives? I wonder if T-Mobile UK is actively blocking this stuff? Not tried contacting T-mobile yet. Anyone tested anything else, or would like me to try something else? Is this a new problem? |

Re: Web + Secure connections
Just to back up the previous posts: I have a N73 on T-mobile with exactly the same issue. I need this for work so I will move away from T-mobile. I hope they are listening.

Re: Web + Secure connections
Looks like it's the T-Mobile proxy. I duplicated my access point and had a butchers at the settings. I changed the proxy to an open proxy and could access fine. Obviously not going to be sending credentials via a random open proxy though.

Re: Web + Secure connections
I should just point out that this is not an official support channel for T-mobile so you need to report your problems directly to Customer Services.

Re: Web + Secure connections
Indeed and I had done before discovering the issue for myself.
Been on the phone to T-Mobile for ages again. They even tried telling me I needed to upgrade to a business package. After saying i would have to go elsewhere they went away and miraculously "bumped into" someone who "happened to have had the same issue". Not sure why I didn't think of it but just removing the proxy from the access point advanced settings works. Apparently on some Nokias you have to set it to 0. Not sure if other service providers would have the same problem if they use a proxy in their provided setting but it's a good thing to check. |

Yay! At last! I've been having this problem since I reset my phone about four weeks ago. I can confirm that turning off the proxy has resolved it, and I can now access https sites.
To fix on my N95 I did the following steps:

Re: Web + Secure connections
Yes, I should have added the steps for removing the proxy. I shall remember in future to be more detailed.
I was a little more cautious though and cloned the T-Mobile Internet access point (options while access points are displayed) and changed the name to indicate it was a no proxy one. I then removed the proxy one the new one so I can choose one or the other in case there is ever a need to use the proxy again. |

Re: Web + Secure connections
Hi there,
Just to let you guys know this problem is far from unique to a specific phone model. I am on Virgin Mobile (UK - they use the T-Mobile network infrastructure) and using a Nokia 5800 with S60 operating system. The problem was exactly as described here and Virgin were clueless as to how to fix it - literally clueless. So in light of this, thank you everyone here! you have made my phone useful again! I just have one question - is deleting the proxy settings actually safe? I mean, does it compromise the security of the data that I am sending? I haven't actually logged in to anything yet in case the answer is 'no'. thanks in advance, Alex |

Re: Web + Secure connections
No, you will still connect via your provider.
The proxy just tells it to go to a specific one of their servers (well, I hope the proxy is to one of theirs anyway). Generally this will be so they can apply restrictions or monitoring to the server acting a a proxy. There may be providers where there is no direct internet gateway from the server accepting the connection from phones in which case a proxy will be required but that would just mean removing it completely breaks all internet access. |
