any added extras frm updating firm ware, wiv psp u got things like web browser ect an it stopped ya frm playing iso's n stuff, do u get new stuff with the new firmware or is it jus more bug free?

my phone is already acting up, i cannot restore my back up the phone hangs, i got my java back and the games i had came back they dont run... but they are back... the stereo sound option the the music player is useless... the speaker volume is increased... my phone restarts atleast 2 times by it self... the virtual memory is lower...slower response...the themes still dont work it goes away once the phone is switched off... more as it comes then i mean its not even been 24 hours and all these problems... damn

If you udated the sw without formatting your HDD you can run into problems where the device (and S60 device) has issues with teh 3rd party app restore (ie impartial installation) You will see you applications on the desktop but they wont run etc. I recommend you do it again following these steps:

1) Make sure you have the latest PC suite (6.81)from : http://europe.nokia.com/A4144903, or other local regional sites.

2) Install the Nokia software update application sw from http://www.nokia.co.uk/softwareupdate (note you need 256MBytes of RAM on your PC)

3) Then program your phone

a) Backup your phone memory (ROM) using PC suite (to preserve your DRM activation keys etc).

b) Copy your files (Music, Videos, Documents, Images etc) from the device HDD to your PC (recommended to use USB Mass storage).

c) Copy your applications, themes etc (original SISX, Java etc files before you installed them) from your HDD to your PC (Do not simply copy the installed directories/files over)

d) FORMAT your HDD

e) Proceed with SW update (note you need to be attached to a charger and not in offline mode. Do not answer or make call or disconnect the device during this process)

f) Reset your phone memory by typing *#7370# (code 12345) (recommend this just to be safe)

g) Restore your phone memory using PC suite

h) Copy back your HDD contents from your PC to your clean HDD

h) Re-install your applications/themes

You would not format your PC HDD and then drag and drop Msoffice files onto the HDD and expect it to work. You need to re-install applications clean
This is what I suspct is causing the wonky behavious

Themes: I believe the theme besing lost on power off is actualy a fact of life
for Symbian. Symbian dismounts the HDD during charging. So when you turn it on it has "lost" the theme and you have to go and reselect it. This also happens if you pop off the battery cover with power on. I suggest installing your favorite theme on the phone memory

thanx for your help... but my phone crashed before which basically hid the games... yea i knew about the charging thing found it on the net after posting it here... BTW PC Suite hangs my phone everytime i try to restore the back up... gavent tried anything else yet and dude i dont think the folder the application makes if it makes them will include the install file... and im not stupid... btw ur instructions look like something out of the nokia manual... are u a rep spying on us lol

I had the same problem, Specially with the gallery and video recording. the phone hangs too much, have to remove the battery all the time pffftttt. FOR USERS WHO STILL HAVE'NT UPDATED THEIR PHONE PLS DONT UPDATE IT!!

yea dude same thing ive taken my battery out 8 times in the last hour and every time i even press the music key my phone hangs oo and another thing

PEOPLE DO NOT UPDATE THE REAL PLAYER IS STUFFED IT NEEDS PERFECT CONVERSION FOR FULL SCREEN MODE AND SO FAR NO PROGRAM IS KNOWN TO DO IT WHICH IS AVAILABLE PUBLICALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

at what point do I need an internet connection ? I was thinking of downloading the update using GPRS/EDGE (connecting to the internet using the phone as a modem using USB) and changing the firmware. Now the point is that while it is updating the software my notebook wont be able to access the internet. But is it needed.

I hope my question is clear. What I mean is that I am just going to use the phone to connect to the net and dont have a broadband connection. Let me know if it can work

HIGHLY NOT RECOMEMDED!!!! first of all it will stuff up your phone second of all its a very big file that you download first the 16MB installer and then the update it self took me 30 mins on a 3.5mbps broadband connection to download... its going to cost you heaps if you do it... if still willing give me a buzz...

Im really surprised that nokia didnt make this ota.

Im also suprised that lots of people are having problems with it. I cant imagine that the firmware that they have released is buggy, so it would suggest to me that you have gone wrong somewhere on something, however I highly doubt that you would need to hard reset your phone to make it work.
