oh crap...dropped my N82 in the pond!

I dropped my N82 out of my shirt pocket into the pond today...I fished it out within seconds and it was still working! But took the battery and sim out and tried to dry it as best as I could and now it is playing up really bad..starts up but the screen is all grey and misty and it keeps shutting down.
So, my question is this..what do I do next? I do not have specific phone insurance because I thought that if I got it nicked I would claim on house insurance...and bearing in mind that water damage isn't covered under most phone insurance (I did think about taking insurance out today and claiming it fell in water next week?)
Any suggestions appreciated (bearing in mind I have a good 12 months left on contract) and I would like to stay within the law but am willing to bend the truth a little to get it sorted without incurring huge costs..
Cheers

Re: oh crap...dropped my N82 in the pond!

dont blame me if this doesnt work but i read somewhere that you need to soak it in distilled water to clean out any impurities like dirt and whatever in it then let it dry naturally, but as youve already turned it on there appears to be already some damage so it might not work, so yes probably take out insurance and then maybe wait a bit longer before you claim beause they're probably not stupid and will see righ tthrough you if you calim th next week lol

Re: oh crap...dropped my N82 in the pond!

Thanks for advice...I might have given the distilled water a go if I hadn't already turned it on, after all there isn't much to lose.
On the issue of insurance, am I right in thinking water damage is the only thing not covered in phone insurance? If so, what other options are there/
Anyone any first hand experience of claiming for something like this?
Thanks

Distilled water has worked in the past, provided that you are reasonably quick. Dry it in an airing cupboard if you have one, but give it a few days.

Re: oh crap...dropped my N82 in the pond!

Hi again...for future info in case someone else does this I would definitely recommend the distilled water method....I didn't use it but I imagine 100% it would work.
The reason I say this is that my N82 was under water for somewhere between 5-10 secs in the pond and I left it to dry out for a week or so and now it works fine!
At first the screen, camera, and everything in fact seemed screwed up...but once dried it is completely back to normal.
So, I figure that if it is already wet, then distilled water won't make it worse, it will in fact help by cleaning.
One thing I would point out though, is to get the battery, sim and sd card asap after you get it out of the water, and resist the urge to try it or turn it on until the screen and camera show now signs of dampness.
Just make sure it is thoroughly dry before trying.
As you can imagine , I am pretty happy!

Angry Nokia N82 water damage

my N80 stoped reading memory cards sent to Nokia and told water damage can not fix

the only time it got any water was about 3 drops on a protective cover my wife had put on it.
Nokia has had it twice now and can not tell me how the water got in or if it was durring shipping and thay can not show me any evidence of water damage they just say water damagenot our problem

now that we have it back more of the buttons are not working

not happy but what can I do
