E616vboy is right. You can use any 3G phone even if it isnt on three, but you cant use a 2G GSM phone.

They only give you a call or text or bar you if your using a 2G phone, not a 3G phone. Try it for yourself. Get a 3G phone and it will work perfectly. Try a 2G phone and you will most probably get a call or text within a few days. Ive used many non three approved 3G phones on 3 before and nothing has ever happened.

Its not the phone they are worried about, its the signal. They dont mind if your using a 3G phone, as it connects to their signal so doesnt cost them anything. If your using a 2G phone, it will auotmatically connect to o2, which three have to pay everytime you make a call or text on when your locked onto o2.
