I recently followed the instructions sent to me by 3 which said if I am travelling abraod within 5 days I should call 333 and they would set up my phone to use abroad. I went to Lanzarote for two weeks and was unable to use my phone at all as the arseholes in India had failed to follow up my request. My phone was out of use for two whole weeks.
On my return I phoned to cmplain and I asked for a two week refund of charges. They have refused saying that IR is charged separately. I have had no service for two weeks so why on earth should I pay for a service that I have not received.
I am fuming and want to take this further as I do believe that not providing me with a service is in breach of contract and that I have good cause to cancel my contract.

Does anyone have any advice for me or the number of the Chief Exec?

Send a letter to 3. Not email, no phone calls, an old fashioned, letter. The address is in your bill, it is somewhere in the UK. It will take some time to respond, but they seem to be more efficient.

I used that path to complain, sending a letter and an email. They replied to the email promising a £5 credit (good will) and surprisingly, they gave it!

Friendly, Kostas.

Another thing, from personal experience. I had international roaming activated and confirmed, yet when I went to Netherlands and Greece, it was not working. The problem turned out to be with the phone (NEC 616). A software upgrade followed that and I had no problems next time I went to Greece. Just mentioning this is case...

I'll take your advice and write a letter of complaint. I'm off to the Caribbean over the Xmas holidays and I want to be able to use my phone out there so I can wish all my pals (who are freezing their butts off back home) a merry xmas! :D

Pretty much the same thing happened to me on an earlier aborted Three contract. When I phoned them, international on a friend's mobile, they said (broadly speaking - paraphrased):

"Yes we have a record of your request. You passed the credit check but it hasn't been set up. We don't know why."

I was not especially happy!!

Time is, however, a great healer and the £4.99/month for Talk & Text 600, free 7600 & bluetooth headset, has wooed me back!

I know....I'm a sucker!

Get out of 3G . Its the worst in the business. I have struggled for 10 months and await the end of contract with glee. Had I known what a farce 3g is I would have got out sooner. I just thought , things can only get better. They say a fool and his money are easily parted. Well 3g are growing rich at our expense.

3G is the technology. What is a joke of a busimess is 3, a particular company implementing the technology. Don't confuse the two things.

Hi Constantine,

Having read your post I feel much better. The service has'nt improved but at least we all know the technical side is ok and its just hutchinson screwing things up.

I found the number of the Executive Office in another thread and phoned them up. I spoke to a nice Scottish lady called Alison and politely explained my problem to her. She has agreed to have two-weeks line rental deducted from my next bill. She also caled me back and confirmed that my phone is now set up for IR. She was very polite and helpful.

I have recommended that her team have a look at this forum to see how peed off we all are and how unhelpful the CS team can be.

B4 you all go off and think activating roaming on your 3 handset will be a piece of cake, be prepared as it might set you back 250 quid, yes, they'll probably ask you for a £250 roaming activation charge! it's not even a deposit, it's a non-refundable admin. charge that they ask for to activate your roaming service. I was shocked when I heard that today! I called twice just to make sure what I heard was right! Has anyone else been asked for this? or are they pulling my legs? apparently, it's a standard charge they charge to all new 3 customers!?!?! as told by an Indian CS operator

On my 3rd attempt to activate int roaming I was successful. Whilst on holiday in Tenerife the A920 worked perfectly on Vodaphone ESP and Movistar. No mention of any extra charges or deposit. Got welcome messages from Movistar etc. not one dropped call, until I got back to the UK.

Then the A920 broke down, kept switching off and on at intervals of 3 minutes?????. Phoned 3g to report fault and hey-presto they arranged for collection and brought it back fixed and working better , all within 3 days !!!!.

So nothing but praise for 3G service dept. Well done.

Grrr, these call centres procedures, how dumb they are!
I called 3 two weeks ago to set up international roaming on my Pay Monthly account. Although it's not really my mobile network operator's business, I did answer when asked which country I planned to travel to (Spain). I understand that they'd ask for a deposit if you are travelling to countries with expensive tariffs.
I called today to double check that they actually set up the roaming. Although they already knew whether the roaming was cleared or not, they still asked which country I was going to. I admit that I lost my cool:
- I'm about to start to start a World Tour
- World Tour?
- Yes
- Oh.... OK
- So, is the roaming set up already?
- Oh, yes, it is, Sir
- Thank you
- Thank you for your call, have a good day, Sir, etc, etc....
- Thanks, Bye

Would'nt it be a good idea if 3 sent a text to your phone saying your phone was OK to use abroad, then you could bollock them when you get back and it did'nt work like they said it would. As for me I'm taking my old Nokia on hols with me with a PAYG sim on good ol' O2 and to hell with the 3 might/might not work palavas

The reason you have been requested to pay a 250 GBP deposit is because you have not been automatically provisioned by the consumer credit department .If you wanna know "why" you havent been provisioned you need to get the infomation from www.equifax.co.uk .If all depends on your credit ratings when the credit check is done. And no CS operator would know your rating as they would not have access to that infomation .

peedoffuser: Have you ever read your terms of contract? I guess not that why the comment "I do believe that not providing me with a service is in breach of contract " tip: look under section 5.9

YEp KRACKA you got a point there .

There are many reasons . The other reason could be how prompt you are in paying the bill.So even if the credit rating aint so good but you have a pretty high price plan have all the bills paid on time could make an exception
