Call screeching: phone or network?

I was wondering if people could let me know how often they experience "screeching" and with which phone.

For people who don't know what I'm on about, "screeching" is when the person you're talking to has a very loud screech-like-noise during the call. It only happens when using 3's network and not when using O2.

Do people think this is a phone or a network issue? If it's a phone issue, then I'll get a software upgrade or a new phone (I currently have the u8110) or if it's a network issue I'll switch to Orange 3G when they launch.

I'm in central Manchester and the amount of screeching during calls is unacceptable.

Yep, used to get screeching noises on my e606 during calls when on 3G. I remember reading other posts on here about call screeching - search on it maybe.

I occasionally get the screeching noise with my Nokia 7600 when using 3g coverage in Plymouth. I think it's probably the network.

people always complain of it when i call them or vice versa, i have an a925. my mam has a 7600 on 3 and whenever i speak to her on that theres whoosing noises, even if i call her from landline.

think the whoosing noises might be the 7600's fault but the screeching noises are definetly the fault of 3's "network"

It's the network - I've had severalphones NEC & LG they all do it.

I run a half unlocked NEC313 on a 2G SIM & it hasn't screeched once.

Bl00dy thing hurts like hell on the earpiece when it kicks off.
