I was tell by the sales 3point i buyed from,
I can go ups at any time, and backed to my base tariff whenever i like.
I can not though.
go belowed my base tariff for the firstly six months.
only come backed down a tariff one step at a time each month.
so VT500 to VT1000 should be good no?

as far as i know you can go on videotalk 1000 whenever you like but you can't go onto a tariff BELOW the on you're on at the moment for another 6 months. after 6 months you can downgrade to the next tariff down each month but that won't apply to you anyway as there's only one tariff below 500 isn't there (100?) plus you want to upgrade your tariff not downgrade.
not sure though if you can just go on 1000 on your next bill date and then go back to 500 the month after, you might have to keep it for 6 months and downgrade it in steps. the best thing to do is call customer services 3 or 4 times so you speak to different people as they all seem to just make stuff up and say different things every time.
the reason for the 6 month thing is because they want to claw back the money they paid to subsidise your handset to get you to take out the contract so if you were to get a free phone for £35 a month then the following month go onto the £15 a month tariff they would make a loss
