View Full Version : Improved £15 Top-Up

Anyone else get a message from 3 this morning saying they've 'improved' the £15 top-up? It looks like this now:

VideoTalk: 50 Minutes and £5.00 Credit
VideoText: 100 Texts and £5.00 Credit

Anyone like me think this is a bit of a backward step? I was quite happy topping up £15 a month with the 100 minutes because I usually get a Add Unlimited Content Add-On with it, so I've normally no need to use my allowance except for the odd text or two.

Yes, I got a message about this morning but I came across this when topping my phone up yesterday after getting it back from the 3 point after it was repaired (I went into the 'Top Up Account' section of MY 3 about 3 times just checking that this was'nt an error, but it was'nt everytime (50 minutes/£5 credit or 100 texts/£5.00 credit - no voice calling minutes any more if you opt for the text option)

I think that 3 want customers to buy the £ 25 top up rather than the £ 15 one as this still offers the same as before (as does the £ 35 one).

It means that 3 give you less credit for the same money.

Also note that I seen a advert in the paper this morning for 3 (contract) and it looks as if they have put their prices up by £ 5.00 a month on all of the plans.

I agree the £ 15 top up voucher is'nt that good value now that it works out to 20p a minute if you have voice calling minutes and 10p a text if you have texts

they haven't put prices up on the contracts but have abolished the videotext tariffs in favour of new talk & text tariffs.

T&T200
£20 per month, 100 minutes & 100 texts

T&T600
£30 per month, 500 minutes & 100 texts

T&T900
£40 per month, 750 minutes & 150 texts.

all videotalk tariff prices remain the same

HI all...........So 3uk think customers are "nuts" for wishing the walled gaqrden was gone/ After what they have done to the £15 top up I would say the word "nuts" is slighyly more than rich. Also the £5 credit not including video calling. Have to say a Fresh sim pack looks a very good alternative...even free voice mail.............Sorry Everybody.........Sore Point.......Stay Lucky

Very true... I used quick map only the other week when it was still 10p. I certainly won't be using it again now that they've more than doubled the price.

Well done 3. A great way to discourage your users from paying for your content.

I really cant see why all you lot moan about the new improved £15 top up, to me it seems a pretty good deal, 50 mins for £10 and £5 to spend on whatever you wish...
Now according to 3's price guide for prepay customers, mins outside of your allocated bundle are:

3 uk mobile/voicemail 5p per min
National calls 10p per min
UK Mobiles 12p per min

So even if you use all your £5 on xnet calls that still gives you an extra 41 mins, plus your 50 mins = 91 mins....

Yes ok, so that's less then 100 mins you got before, but then who uses all there mins on xnet calls??? if you used all your £5 to call just 3 mobiles that would give you an extra 100 mins, totalling 150 mins.

I think in the law of averages you're probably better off with the new voucher.

Poor old contract customers have to pay 25p per min to xnet when out of there allowence!!!! you prepay people pay just 12p, and you still moan and moan and moan......

What really makes me sick is the way everyone slags 3 down the the ground, no matter what they do its always wrong it seems...

How about a little praise for once!!!!!!!

No other UK network offers anywhere near the value 3 do.....
who elso will give you xnet calls for only 12p per min on Prepay???

That by no means was directed at you at all, just a general observation of peoples comments on any subject really, no offence was ment to you at all matey!!

Just reading some comments on here makes me laugh, people always slag 3 off without finding out the full facts, no one ever seems to have something good to say about them...
All i can say is it will be interesting to see how bad the others do when they launch, and beliveve me they will..... 3uk have at present over 18 months experinance then they do....

I personally cant wait to see what there tariffs will be like, i do know none of them have any kind of network coverage that comes anywhere near 3's
I think maybe then people might have somethinfg nice to say about them.....

a_ukboy,

I do actually use all of my inclusive minutes on xnet calls, if I wanted £5 credit on my phone I would go and get an add-on, but as I use unlimited content the extra £5 is just a waste (why should I bother downloading crappy ringtones or wallpapers when I can transfer MP3's & JPEG's to my phone anyway and use them).

This is just goes to prove that 3 are right we are all nuts, roll on Orange all is forgiven.

I can see the logic in this move. They are trying hard to make Threepay customers spend more and get the £25 top up. Failing that they are making the content more prominent with the £5 credit.

Its a pity that most ThreePay users used to the £15 deal will loose out (with a reduction in call time) so soon after buying their handsets. Its also very dissapointing that content like Quickmap and Ringtones have increased in cost by as much as 100% at the same time! Still 3 need to make money and it looks as if we now have an indication of how they might achieve this.

But you can use the £5 on anything, even calls!!! if you didnt read my earlier reply..

50 mins + £5.00... xnet calls at 12p per min gives you and extra 41 mins, if used to call another 3 mobile would give you an extra 100 mins.... I think you are better off with the new vouchers!

Coltch

I know you can use the £5 on anything, same as you used to be able to use the £1.50 on the old Top-up on anything.

I have been with 3 since threepay started so I do know how it works.

The problem I think most people are going to have with this new top-up is when they check there balance and see their inclusive minutes rather low and forget about the cash credit on the phone, which could possibly make them think they are on the wrong plan and move up to the £25 voucher.

I also looked at the add-ons and see these have changed.

Add Everything £5 & £10
Video Value £10 (used to be unlimited content)

As 3GSU said, this looks like 3's way of trying to get people to spend more on three's content and start shifting people onto higher price plans where most of the inclusive minutes would be wasted.

Hi Folks.
I'm new to this network and was a little dischuffed when I found out about this "improved" £15 deal. I did not receive any notification and only found out when making a balance enquiry.
I've just topped it up again and the automatic voice does not even tell you how many voice minutes you get.
How do I use the £5 to make voice calls?
Do I just wait until the voice minutes are up and it will happen automatically?
Sorry if the answer seems rather obvious, but I am 46 you know.

Any help appreciated

yeah any calls made outside your free minutes are taken from credit, usually 12p a minute to ring another network

A £15 credit-only option would go down very well with me! Like they'd ever allow that... 50 mins for £10 = 20p a minute = atrocious! Even for xnet calls! Now calls at 5p/min, value of £15 = 300 minutes! Even at 12p/min you'd still get 125 minutes from a voucher.
If they're desperate to make money, open up the walled garden! I wouldn't mind paying £10/month to use that with the add-on.

from what ive been told if you put another top up on whilst you still have credit left, the 2nd voucher only starts when all the credit runs out or when the 1st voucher expires.
what you could do is this.
on day 29 or just b4 all free calls run out, put a £10 add everything on.
as long as you have a valid voucher you can do this.
on day 30 when the voucher expires the £10 add will still work for 30 days.
therfore you can get a month for £10.
that means 200 mins 3 to 3 at 5p per min or 12p for x network approx 84 mins worth
hope this helps

This will be the first of many moves to increase revenues.

3 have to get back that investment in infrasructure and handsets and they cant wait too long either with new networks on the horizon.

Your cheap ThreePay handset may have been a bargain at the time.... but the true cost will be collected sooner rather than later I suspect.
