Does anyone use 3mail? It looks fairly useful, but I'm not sure if they charge for sending and receiving email....anyone know?

3Mail is currently free but at some point (probably) it will become chargeable. Charges will be based on how large (size) the e-mail is when it is sent/recieved.

It is one of the best services on 3, you get a fairly spacious mailbox with no advertising and you can access attachments of certain types (like pictures and MP3s) on your phone.

The only thing missing is being able to access it from your PC in a webmail interface.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get email alerts? Can't see any option on the 3mail broswer application, the built in application doesn't appear to have any options for it either.

Thanks, James.

Unfortunately the network will not "push" notification of new e-mail to your phone. The network will send a text message when a new voicemail is deposited in your mailbox (usually) but will not do the same thing for e-mails. I don't know why not, it can't be that much harder given the fact that v/m and e-mail go into the same mailbox (as seen by the subscriber) - i.e. if you ring voicemail you will be told how many new e-mails there are as well as voicemails.

Depending on your phone, you might be able to set it up so that it will check for e-mail every x minutes and if it recieves a new one, display a status indicator on the standby screen or something like that. I know the A835 can do that, probably the A9xx series can do that also. Not a fantastic solution and I don't use it but if you forget to check your e-mail or something like that you might find it useful.

Yeah I had thought about that also, I've got the new nokia 7600 however which doesn't appear to have a task scheduler (just a normal organiser with reminders).

There must be some Java applications out there that would do this sort of thing.

Thanks, James.

Having google'd as much as I can, I can't find anything that would help auto-retreive email. Anyone came across anything which may do the job?

Thanks, James.

Is the 7600 Symbian-based? If so perhaps you can find a 3rd Party e-mail program that will automatically check every xx minutes.

I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think so. I think it may only be the 7650 and 9200 which are symbian based.

Nope. The 7600 is based on Nokia's proprietory operating system; not on Symbian -- so no 3rd-party e-mail programs. Sorry.
