Goto Wlan in Settings -> Options -> Advanced options

It will prompt you to that it's not recomended .. ignore it.

Change automatic config to manual.

The default tx power for the wifi chipset is a whopping 100mw! (For reference most cheap home wifi access points are about 25-50mw, and the lan card in your laptop is ~28mw)

Setting it to 10mw is going to be sufficent if your within 100 metres of your AP. Lower even if you have a strong Wifi network whever you use your phone's wlan function.

This buys me another couple of hours of standyby time a day (At most I can get maybe 10hours). with only GSM mode on.
