why do vodafone do very little to assist you on an upgrade ??

Im still on 125m 250txt stop the clock 12 moth deal and want a decent phone.

getting quoted £120 for the samsung soul, again was willing to increase my payment price but unless I take an 18month contract there is little negotiation. also pointed out if i go 18month i want same deal offered on web, no can do i was told ?? either pay £120 for phone on 12month contract or extend to 18months with same minutes and get for free !

would prefer the n95 even a refurbished one but again crazy prices. it seems unless your gonna go 18months there is no help..

getting really fed up with this year after year !

my phone is scratched and scuffed after a year and would never last 18 months so not interested at all in 1 of those deals and recent tarriffs are really poor compared to my £20 deal ! again happy to pay more but once again no help they say it goes on previous spend.

they seem to treat existing customers very poor unless you pay a fortune on a deal or take a really crap phone on an upgrade ! poor poor poor

All networks want you to commit to 18 months as its guaranteed income for them, your monthly fee is split between paying for the handset and your inclusive minutes and they make their money on the calls you make/texts you send.

If you spend a lot per month on a regular basis then they are more likely to heavily subsidise the handset because they know that they will make this back with a healthy profit on top which lets face it is what they are there to do, operating a telecoms sysstem/providing you with a flashy handset for you to show off down your local is just a necessary evil :)

one option, and i know this sounds silly, is to spend the next 3 months overspending on your contract (I believe they only look @ 3 months back usage, a CS person may be able to qualify this) thus pushing up what they think you will spend, and therefore giving you a better upgrade/retension offer.

my missus got a free W960i on a 12 month contract, 500minutes, unlimited texts blah blah for £25 a month on a 12 month contract... previously she had been paying 45.

I still cant work out how that even pays for the phone..

Exactly. In the case of the U900 Soul which was mentioned the SIM Free price is around £300. Even if the network got it for half that its still around 12.50 per month that has to come out of a 12 month rental if they were to give the phone for free.

With new customers there is an acquisition budget - money set aside in the hope that you will sign up and stay. That is not there with upgrades.

I suspect the price is actually more - hence the £120 per month charge on 12 months.

125 + 250 is what, £20 per month?
12 X 20 = £240.
Samsung Soul = Expensive.
Quote = Realistic.

Either way, I appreciate that you just want to get a good deal and you were prepared to raise your contract to get the handset you wanted.

You could possibly try taking out a new connection and cancelling your old number, if this isn't too much of an inconveniance.

You could either just ask to cancel your contract, when they try to ring you to keep you, tell them you want some outragously amazing deal and you'll likely get it.

I think thats the route I will be going down. 3 have a great offer on just now £25 for 500 mins and unlimited texts on a 12month deal something voda will come no where near close too.. but to be honest ive always been happy with voda other than when its time for a new phone ! will haggle with them on return from holiday.

You need to make sure that 3 deal is with a phone, i would be very, very surprised if they'd offer you a good phone with that deal to be honest :)

Side note: Vodafone can better that deal at £17.50 per month with no phone.

i work in a retentions channel in vodafone and this seems like a plausable deal to me.

hows that ??

I was willing to increase plan price but not term time as my phones never last 18 months but still no budge on price unless i went 18 months .. I know most companies want you to go 18 months now but ive done it before and wont do it again

they did offer it for £90 opposed to the £120 from upgrades by just calling a different dept (option 4 cancellations put me through to someone else ) which kind of annoyed me especially as the lady in upgrades was actually trying to tell me they wont upgrade new phones on a 12 months contract now and i had to incease to 18 monthswhich was a complete lie

anyway glad i didnt take the sammy soul going to call them regarding the ericsson c902. online upgrade they want £105 so hopefully the price will be lower when i call them .

the 3 deal did include a phone the 6500 or another couple of standard phones nothing too fancy but not just a sim !!
