What Cellphone reports:

"T-Mobile is introducing a new Pay As You Go tariff offering 5p per minute anytime calls to landlines and UK networks for qualifying customers.

In order to qualify for the new rate, customers must spend £40 or more per month for three consecutive months using any of T-Mobile’s services – voice calls, text messages, picture messages, and downloads from t-zones all contribute to the total spend. Then in any subsequent month when the customer spends £40 or more, their call charges for the remainder of that month are halved to 5p per minute.

Any T-Mobile customers who are already eligible for 5p per minutes calls will be identified and rewarded with the lower rate.

The full Relax Pay As You Go tariff pricing structure is as follows:

* Up to £10 spend per month – 30p per minute calls to landlines and UK networks

* £10 - £20 spend per month – 20p per minute calls to landlines and UK networks

* £20 - £40 spend per month – 10p per minute calls to landlines and UK networks

* £40 or more spend per month for three consecutive months – 5p per minute calls to landlines and UK networks"

I guess it gives T-Mobile a good headline but users only get the 5p a minute after spending £40 in a single month.

Roughly it works like this followed by the same cost on Fresh.

First 14 minutes £10 (total 14 mins £10) - Fresh £2.10

Next 50 minutes £10 (total 64 mins £20) - Fresh £9.60

Next 200 mins £20 (total 264mins £40) - Fresh £39.60

Then you can have 5p per minute but Fresh remains at 15p per minute.

If you regularly spend that much on calls PAYG is probably the wrong choice. But for occassional users calling other networks Fresh cannot be beaten for all round value.

First 14 minutes £10 (total 14 mins £10) - Fresh £2.10 ?

Actually if you divide £10 by the 30p for calls you will find that you actually get 33 minutes

The problem with Fresh at least now - not sure whether it has always been the case is that you cannot buy the sim card with cash you have to use a credit card :(

The other downside with Fresh is that there is no GPRS and wap is also charged at 15p

Trying to decide at the mo whether to get T-Mobile or Tesco - tried 3pay but calls keep dropping
