View Full Version : sooo i've joined O2 retail from Orange
Yup that's right, due to minor details and the politics and paperwork of Orange I've decided to join the ranks of O2!!!
The store manager called 15 minutes after my interview to offer me the job which is ace. I also turned down Phones4U for this chance.
Anyone tell me what I need to be ready for, tricks for the systems or anything like that to get a head start?
You can PM me or add me to msn.. can't wait to join big blue! (not ibm)

Just out of interest, what is Orange like to work for? They are advertising for a Store Manager in my area and no one seems to want to work there as it has been advertised for ages....What are the benefits for Orange ect and what is it like to work for as a company?
which store?
Benefits are alright, they're changing their free phone policy for the better. Depending on the size of the store and your experience depends on the pay, new systems are being rolled out to help out the back office, they've gone from windowsnt to server2003 over thin client to speed things up.
It's all good really,

Not sure I would ever leave Virgin to be honest but if they perks were as good and the pay was good too I might be tempted!
I was being nosey really, just was interested in why you left for 02? I might take a punt and apply and see what happens!!! :D
Do you get a handset refresh ever 6 months?
Lucky escape for you! Phones 4 U is a shocking place to work (so I have been told by some staff)
don't know what the new staff thing is, I left just before it all became knowledge.
It got to the point where i'd held the store for some time before the new manager came in, dropped my hours down to 15 because i was back at uni full time and was getting frustrated with the limits as to what I could do. My hours changed but my workload didn't, some of that is my fault though.
O2, well why not.. i've heard they treat their staff well and had a laugh with the guys in the interview. I was pretty gob smacked that he decided 20 minutes after my interview that I was what he wanted. But I did get top marks in the P4U phone interview and 99/100 out of the O2 one.

Yeah 02 seem pretty cool, one of the guys I know at Virgin came from 02 and he seemed to have enjoyed his time there. He just fancied something different.
Good luck!!! ;)

Best of luck with your job mate.

O2 is a great company to work for. We have things like Spirit Points for individual staff, which you can then use towards Holidays like Thomson Holidays, or if your going out to bars and stuff, you can get free drinks.
We use the Torex system, which is basically the same as Vodafone, Phones4U, and Virgin... not sure what system Orange is on.
The staff discounts are great (for example, 50% off your O2 Contract, and 30% for 10 friends of family members, highest broadband package for lowest package's price). The staff in my store (and a few others I've covered at) are great to work with.
The company really does all it can to make you happy and their policy is a worry-free and happy worker is an efficent one really.
If you have any problems (including your managers), you can always talk to someone above you without your managers knowledge and stuff... my manager is great though so I have no complaints against him.
I think you'll enjoy working there! Might I ask what store you'll be working at?
As per tips and tricks, ermm there aren't really any. Just never utter the word "contract" when dealing with Simplicity tariffs as people instantly put up a defensive, and try to sell as many hot handsets as you can, but obviously make sure they fit the persons needs and requirements.
i'll be in Oxford, no idea what Torex is so some info would be nice haha.
Orange used Enable (homebrew kit) CSS and a system called Merlin

Torex is our stock management, and sales system... we also have another system running along side it, for use on the general computers (eg. the intranet, gateway for checking upgrades / putting through contracts) and URU is our identity / credit checker.
You'll find out about all this in store.
aaah orange was SAP back end with some java till system

Hey fev, anything you can tell me vice versa?
A store near mine is closing so all the 5 and 10 year contracted O2 staff are being shifted to other stores. I've been made redundant and there's a job going at the local Orange shop.
I'll miss O2 a lot, and my manager said that the second any job comes up at the store, he wants me back, but it's a matter of hours and the area manager screwing everything around.
Thanks
(and hey, at least I get to keep my £10 staff tariff, and their even going to give me discount on the new iPhone)
