I have noticed that since last weekend after a while the power usage on the phone just seems to rocket. Using energy profiler I can see the usage go from ~.2watts to >1w in a regular cycle draining a full battery in about 5 hours. Setting phone to offline mode seems to stop it occuring so I think it is the trying to use the phone network. I am on 3uk but setting the phone to use just umts or just 2g does not seem to make any difference it will still go into this cycle, bluetooth is off. I have tried a complete reset of the phone in case there was some software causing the issue but it still seems to be occuring. Anyone else seen this occur or have any ideas about what might be the cause? firmware version is 11.0.117

Had you installed any new software on it just before you got the problem?

Did try a couple of new apps before installing but have since done hard reset and complete formta of memory card. Tried Fsecure to scan the phone in case there was a virus or something that was trying to use the network or something. It seems to be random but once it has started it keeps going unless I put phone into offline mode.

The problem with these apps is that if the application is not well written then it will affect your phones performance. Its the same thing as on your PC really. Crap software makes the PC perform crap at times so you really have to take care making sure the apps you put on your phones come from trusted companies who have a good programming track record.

Try removing those applications, if you see any difference then that's that. If all else fails, reformat...
