Hello folks,

I am thinking about buying a phone from ebay as T-Mobile don't do this handset and I don't want to change service provider.

Am I right in thinking that only Voda can unlock it? and, as I won't be a Voda customer, how would I go about getting it unlocked?

Cheers for any help.

Could you send me the link via PM please.

Also, what happens if someone has tried to unlock it before? Isn't there a counter that only allows 5 attemps? I ask as my mate got stung and couldn't unlock his.

Cheers.

im not too sure about how many attempts you get to unlock i thought it was 3-5 and after that your stuck to the same network if failed, but im not sure so dont quote me on it.

i dont know if am allowed to post links to other sites here so goto ebay and do an item search and put this Item number: 200192623658 and check the users feedback if your not 100% sure, hes got 100% positive feedbacks on unlocking n95's

let me know how you get on.

yes, most of the staffs in the vodafone retail shops can access to the database. Vodafone did it for the intention to make the sales life easier

Sometimes, they have people interested to buy the handset as a present or take it abroad. If they can unlock the handset for customer, it makes the sales a lot easier.

However, yes, sales people do make extra buck from doing that service to other phone shops like me.

I was under the impression that all voda contract phones are already unlocked, only PAYG phones are locked.

Used to be - seems not to be the case now. Only o2 left. Vodafone will unlock for around £20 or free if out of contract

From reports voda now supply their contract phones unlocked and if you have a locked voda phone on contract they will provide the unlock code for free.

If its on payg I think they charge £19-99 during the first 12 months, then after that they will unlock it for free.

sound like a bad news to me if vodafone unlocks it free :dead:

but I think vodafone won't give the code away if it's bought 2nd hand

I bought my Nokia N95 8GB from CEX preowned store. It was locked to Vodafone but i wanted to use it on orange so i phoned vodafone, the first lady said they would not unlock it for me because I was not the original owner, put the phone down and rung up again and they did it for me for free, no questions asked and said it was fine to do so. Gave me a code to put in, first one failed, second unlocked it. Was well pleased as if i had bought it Unlocked it would of been like £350, but i paid £295 as it was Vodafone locked, until I got home and rung them of course. Try that. They obviously can do it.
