Most phones say they support a certain memory card size. The 6500 takes a 4gb, so Nokia say. But most phones also get by using bigger cards. Anyone using a 8gb card and filling it??

if Nokia says only 4GB it only supports 4GB

not necessarily. There have been plenty of other examples where bigger cards work. Phone manufacturers tend to only quote the biggest card they've tested just in case bigger cards don't work. I'm sure the 8GB card will be fine.

take a HTC Tytn, not SDHC compatible, upgraded to a Kaiser put the 8gb card in the old phone to see if it works and it does.
Its not meant to work at all.
Anyone care to explain?
