(oh no not another)

Ok, I understand the flaw in Nokias N95 battery, but I really hope this is a fault somewhere, as its no where near 1 day stand by.

Since I got my N95 about a week ago, I noticed straigt away that the battery drained very quickly compared to my previous N80. Last three nights in a row (on full bars) in the morning my N95 was switched off. Last night for the first time in my mobile history, I took a charger with me, and left the phone plugged in all night. from about 2am til 7am. ITs now 9.24am, i'm at work, my phone hasn't rang, beeped or coughed, and its on 2 bars!!!

I dont have anything turned on BT, Wifi, GPS, GPRS. And its on Orage 3G.

Do I need to get the battery replaced?

Thanks for your time and reading.

Hi Paul,

I get way more than 7 hours out of my phone, sometimes up to 3 days depending on how much I use it. It sounds like there is either a battery fault or something is really draining the juice.

A couple of things to try. Do you live on the edge of a 3G area? I found my phone kept flicking back and fourth to 3G and it really cained the battery. Turning 3G off did it for me.
(«Tools» | «Settings» | «Phone» | «Network» | Set «Network mode» to «GSM»).

You can also download the nokia energy profiler to find out how much juice you are actually using:

http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/resources/development_process/power_management/nokia_energy_profiler/

I have left my phone idle with it running (backlight is now off) and it is now using 0.23W

If your power usage is higher, there is something draining the juice. I left snakes running overnight by mistake and my phone was dead by the morning.

Thanks Chris,

Come to think of it, I do notice when i'm downstairs the phone keeps loosing the 3G singal and then comes back again.

I downloaded the Nokia Energy thing yesterday and was looking at it last night, should I just leave it running and goto sleep and check in the morning?

Thing is when I connect the power to the phone the w goes up quite a lot anyway, so might have to not rely on it for my alarm clock for a few days.

If I turn 3G off, other than not doing Video calls (which I never do) what will be the difference? Slow GPRS? I do use Orange Internet when out and about, suppose I should just see what its like. If I turn 3G off, will non 3G internet still come off my 4MB GPRS tarrif?

Thanks again.

If you turn 3g off, all you will lose is Video Calling. Your internet will still work, albeit slower. It will come out of your tarrif allowance.

Hi Paul,

Switch your phone off and on to close down and open programs and clear memory etc. Launch the profiler. Set the interval to 5 seconds and get it going, leave it running for 5 minutes and come back and check what it is running at.
I can't comment on your data tarrif as I use my WLAN for internet, but without a 3G signal it will drop down to GPRS so should still come out of your inclusive allowance.

Thanks, I did what you said, but forgot about it, and it ran for 10 mins.

I exported the CSV if you want to take a look, it doesnt seem to be doing anything!

Your power consumption seems better than mine, so I am drawn to a battery on the way out. Try changing that 3G setting to GSM to see if that makes a difference, if it doesn't you can always turn it back on ;)

Anything less than 24hrs standby (nothing else) is not normal.

If you're on the borderline of receiving 3G i.e it keeps jumping from 2G/3G constantly this can consume a lot of power. As mentioned switch to GSM mode only and see what happens. At least this way you'll know if this is the cause.

I use to get about 48hrs if I just left it on standby and nothing else. I do live/work in good 3G area though.

Cool, will give that a go now, and, I am amazed!!! I wasn't that pleased about having to restart my phone everytime I wanted to go on to 3G, but on the N95 it didnt ask to restart the phone, whereas the N80 did.

I can live with that for sure.

Will report back on battery now on 2g.

Thanks again all.

When my N95 was new it was like yours ( 6 hours at best) for around a week, then it seemed to improve a lot as the days went by and now it does 24 hours+

colpac, cool, do you run it on 3g and in a good 3g area?

No, 3G kills it in no time, and seeing as i either use WLAN for internet or dont use it at all there is no point in having 3G on.
