Hi

I've read that O2 are keen to start using 900 Mhz to increase in-building coverage.

My question is simply, if they get the go ahead to start doing this are they likely to retain the 2100 Mhz service for a while thus giving people using single mode UMTS (those only supporting 2100 Mhz in addition to GSM) time to upgrade or is it likely to be switched off overnight?

there is another thread containing all of this information somewhere.. BUT to summarise.

1. OFCOM is keen to share the 900 spectrum around the operators for use on 3G. naturally, O2 and vodafone want to keep it to themselves. it will happen, but not for a few years now.

2. UMTS2000 will remain as it is now. it will simply become a capacity layer rather than an access layer

Cheers Planner, was hoping you might reply and give the benefit of your knowledge, just dont want to go to switch my phone on and it suddenly not work when GSM is swtiched off

I'm happy with my K800i and don't intend to upgrade again for a good few years as its a good solid phone just like the Ericssons of old.
