Can anyone please tell me how to get the MSN Messenger application to work? I have a N95 De-branded, because it was originally an Orange phone!! Anyway when i try to install Windows Live Messenger from Planet 3 i get unable to verify certificate..
I did a search on Google and found a Windows Live Messenger application for Symbian handsets, now this installs (however i have to set the date back a year because it said certificate expired) but now when i log on it tells me that this service is not available yet outside China mainland, Hongkong and Taiwan...
I know that some people have managed to get the Planet 3 version installed on their de-dranded Nokia's.. But how?

Here's what I did:
1. Install the Firefox "User Agent Switcher" from http://chrispederick.com/work/user-agent-switcher/ This makes Firefox look like an N95 browser to web servers you access.
2. Add a new "User Agent" using the above Switcher and name it Nokia N95 with the following properties:
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.2; U; Series60/3.1 NokiaN95/11.0.026; Profile MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)
App Name: AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko)
App Version: Safari/413
{Leave the rest blank}
3. Connect phone to PC using USB and use the phone as a modem via Nokia PC Suite.
4. Browse to the Planet Three homepage using Firefox (with the Nokia N95 User Agent selected) by going to: http://mobile.three.co.uk/hb/HutchKey
5. Navigate your way through to the Windows Live Messenger download, click and save the JAD file called "test.jad". This JAD file tells your phone where to get the real installer and what parameters to set Messenger up with.
6. Because you've debranded your phone, you need to hack the JAD file and remove the last two lines (these relate to the Operator Certificate that is in the branded firmware).
7. Copy the JAD file to your Nokia and run it - your phone should download the JAR installer file and you should be up and running.
BTW, the Version 2.0.0.15 software is many times better than the old junk - my phone has not crashed, locked up, run out of memory or failed to focus once since upgrading!

To install just copy the jad and jar files to your memory card, use file manager to locate files and click on the jad file to install.
Make sure you click the jad file and not the jar file to install!
Also are you in a 3g enabled area or 2G?
Cause i get that error sometimes on my e65 when i'm switching between 3g & 2G, I have also hade it where i have had to log on to msn on my pc and then log out again before i could log in on the mobile!

Ok, that's obviously what im doing wrong, i have installed the jad file using Nokia Software installer, but not that jar file, so that needs to be on the phone too? is that why its not connecting?
Thanks for your help!!

Not sure if it is the problem or not, I know you are supposed to copy both files to your memory card and use the jad file to install!
I have an N80, E65, 6500slide, v3xx and a w850i!
Some debranded and some with 3 firmware, i have seen that error message on all handsets at some point!

Can you see this post (http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?t=87766) and advise, followed your method above for the new version of MSN on 3. The JAD file is quite a bit different and seems to be missing stuff.
Any ideas.
Would PM you but PM is disabled for me.

boab2791:
I've got the latest 3 MSN messenger installed using my old technique of downloading the JAD using Firefox on the PC, editting it with Wordpad and removing the last two lines. The only thing different I had to do was add the .jad extension to the filename. I then copied it to my memory card in the N95 and ran it from the file explorer. When run, it downloaded and installed the Java executable and it just works (I got a text today from 3 saying I'm entered into their stupid draw for an XBox or something as a result of using the new MSN messenger!).

FAO Squad,
See the other post you commented on, I have placed a link to Rapidshare to get the files, not sure how long they will stay there for.
