If you set up an email account on a nokia phone (N95, but seems similar to the N73 as well) in the messages section, does the cost come out of the data package, like x-series, or do you need to have a special email account?

Yes any emails sent or received will come out of the inclusive data of your x-series.

Excellent, thanks for that. I downloaded the gmail app but saw that it doesn't allow attachments, hopefully the programme in messages will allow this
