Hi im new to the forums and just thought I'd ask for some advice.

Im currently on an 18 month £30 a month Dolphin deal. I recieved a free phone at the start of the contract, I also recieved the 10% discount for going from pay-as-you-go to pay monthly, and recieved £100 credit for an old phone.
Now I did shop around and in total got a brillant monthly deal, however I made a mistake taking the free samsung u600, its RUBBISH! :lick:
Now I would like to change the phone but not pay some ridiculously huge upgrade fee! I was quoted £300 just to change phones a while ago. Im in my 5th month so any help would be great as I need to ditch this phone asap!
Cheers

As you are only in your 5th month and as you have found out, it would be too costly to do a early upgrade as you will be charged a early upgrade fee plus the cost of the phone on upgrade (which will depend on which phone you want). By doing a early upgrade you will also be starting a new 12 / 18 month contract.

What you might consider is buying another phone second hand it would need to be on orange or unlocked (if locked to another network you would need to check the cost to unlock the phone). Be careful on buying second hand phones as some people will sell a phone then a few days later will report it lost or stolen and you will end up with a barred ands useless phone.

You could buy a sim free phone, but compare the price of this against what orange will charge for the early upgrade. Although the phone will be generic and unlocked.

Orange also sell refurb phone both on the orange web site and the official ebay shop if one of the ones they sell is what you want.

Once you have got a replacement phone you could also sell your old phone to recover part of your costs.

What phone are you interested in as that could well determine what your options are.

Hi

To answer your first question, yes I'm in the 5th month of my contract which does seem careless and almost stupid , but it does show how much i hate this phone. lol :p (I hope I don't sound like some careless selfish person, thats not the image I want to put across)

But ideally I would like the Nokia 6500 slide which Nokia sell direct for £250, which is alot of money I know! But it does have some great reviews and after playing with it I really like it.

Thats a pain with the whole contract extension thing, I would like to avoid that if possible but you are the expert and have more knowledge of this kind of thing.

Any more advice would be great!

I was told about the contract extension information when I did a early upgrade some time ago by orange. I was about 8 months into a 12 month contract. If you do go for the early upgrade double check the start and finish dates of your contract as not to be caught out. It could be worth a call to orange c/s to see if anything has changed on this point.

On another forum (Mobile review) there is a thread discussing the 6500 classic and slide, I have not read the thread but it appears to span several pages and might be worth a look.

I think there are some other threads on here discussing the 6500, if I can find the posts I will post the links.
