I contacted Vodaphone 151 to unlock my phone for use with other sims abroad for my holiday to Bulgaria on the 5th Jan. I paid £20 on the 28/12/07 and was told it would take a max of 72 hours.

After 12 calls to Vodaphone this still hasn't been resolved. I have been told by advisors that they cannot deal with the unlocking giving a number of excuses from the departments are closed, unlocking equipment is not working and that my phone is registered as stolen (which then apparently was a mistake confirmed 5 minutes later). It appears that the promise made to me on the 28/12/07 should be 72 Working hours; had this been made clear to me I would have taken it to a local phone shop to unlock.

I also found that some (not all) of the advisors were aggressive, sarcastic and unprofessional, one was unbelivably rude.

I'm flying out to Bulgaria tommorow with a locked phone thanks to Vodaphones service. Looks like I'm in for some large Vodaphone international call charges.

Strange that they said it would be 72 hours as normally the networks say it can take around 28 days, on average it takes around 7 to 10 days.

For example if it was a nokia the networks have to get the codes from nokia and with the xmas / new year shut down I would have say that you would have been very lucky to get the code in time.

If you are concerned about running up a large phone bill by having, you could by one of the cheap nokias that can be unlocked for free on sites like unlockme.co.uk, as some of the newer phones can cost up to £40 ish to get unlocked down your local phone shops (if they can unlock them).

If you register with them you can see the range of phones that they can unlock for free.

While if you are currently using a top of the range phone at the moment its not ideal but it is a practical work around, but you won't have all the features on a basic phone that a top end one has.

I can't comment on the level of voda's c/s service you received as I have no experience of them. But one could ask if you knew you were going abroad, prior to the date you asked voda for the code why leave it so late to ask them for it.

Last minute booking?? Sheesh:rolleyes:

If Vodaphone had said to me that it could take 28 days I would not have bothered, simple as; there would not be an issue.

Anyway I'm here now with a locked mobile. Thanks for your comments.
